  1. Mode of Examination: The WBJEE is a pen-and-paper-based offline examination. Candidates are provided with a question booklet and an OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheet to mark their answers.
  2. Exam Duration: The total duration of the examination varies based on the papers appearing for: a. For Mathematics paper: 2 hours. b. For Physics and Chemistry papers combined: 2 hours.
  3. Types of Questions: The question paper comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Each question has four options, out of which only one option is correct.
    SubjectCategory-1 Each Q carries 1 mark (-ve marks =

    -1/4)

    Category- 2

Physics: It has two sections – Section A and Section B. c. Chemistry: It has two sections – Section A and Section B.
  5. Marking Scheme: The marking scheme varies for each subject and section: a. For Mathematics, each correct answer carries one mark. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. b. For Physics and Chemistry, each correct answer carries two marks. For every incorrect answer, 1/2 mark is deducted. No marks are deducted for un attempted questions.
  6. Total Marks: The total marks for the WBJEE exam are as follows: a. Mathematics: 100 marks. b. Physics: 75 marks. c. Chemistry: 75 marks. d. Total: 200 marks.
    CategoryScoring System
1a)       Only single option is correct.

    b)      Correct answers will yield 1 (one) mark for each question.

    c)       Incorrect response will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks for each question.

    d)      For any combination of two and more  options, even if it contains the correct option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -¼ (negative ¼) marks.

    e)       Not attempting the question will fetch nil mark.

2a)       Only single option is correct.

    b)      Correct response will yield two marks for each question.

    c)       Wrong response will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks for each question.

    d)      For any combination of more than one option, even if it contains the correct option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks.

WBJEEB will release merit ranks based on the candidates’ marks in the Common Entrance Test. Individual candidates will be able to see and download his/her Rank Card, which will contain score and rank. WBJEEB does not releases any rank/score list for public to ensure confidentiality to each individual candidate.

Based on the papers (subjects) appeared for and the marks scored, two separate Merit Ranks shall be generated in the following method:

    A.     General Merit Rank: (GMR)

    a)             A sequence of General Merit Rank (GMR) will be made based on the total score obtained in Paper-I and Paper-II taken together.

    b)            Ranking shall be made in the descending order of total marks scored in all the subjects. In case of ties, tie-breaking rules as given in 2.8 shall be applicable.

    c)             Separate reserved category merit position will also be made for respective category of students e.g., SC Rank, ST Rank, OBC-A Rank, OBC-B Rank, PWD Rank, TFW Rank etc., as applicable.

    d)            Admission to all Engineering / Technology / Architecture Courses and to the Pharmacy Course in Jadavpur University will be made only on GMR.

    e)            Sequencing order for counselling/allotment of seat/admission will be

made on GMR only (not on category ranks). Category ranks are for general information only to candidates of respective category.

    1. Pharmacy Merit Rank: (PMR)
    2. A sequence of Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) will be prepared made on the score in paper-II only, e., Physics and Chemistry.
    3. Ranking shall be done in the decreasing order of marks scored in paper-II. In case of ties, tie-breaking rules as given in 8 shall be applicable.
    4. Separate reserved category merit position will also be made for respective category of students g., SC Rank, ST Rank, OBC-A Rank, OBC-B Rank, PWD Rank, TFW Rank etc.
    5. Admission to all Pharmacy Courses except in Jadavpur University shall be prepared based on PMR.
    6. Sequencing for allotment of seat will be made on PMR only (not on category ranks). Category ranks are only for information to candidates of respective

    C. Category ranks are generated depending on the category information given by the candidates during online application, but documents are verified by the respective allotted institute during counselling. Hence candidate’s certificates/ documents/ proofs must be genuine as on the date of verification. If during verification, any candidate’s claim is found ingenuine at that time, his/her category rank will be cancelled, and the candidate will be considered in general category. Category ranks of other candidates will not be revised.

It’s important for candidates to be well-prepared for the exam by understanding the exam pattern, practicing previous years’ question papers, and managing their time effectively during the examination. Familiarity with the pattern helps candidates in navigating the exam smoothly and maximizing their performance.
