The National Testing Agency (NTA) has addressed frequently asked questions regarding the NEET UG 2024 syllabus. The NTA has confirmed that there are changes in the NEET UG syllabus for 2024, including additional topics beyond the NCERT books.
The NTA informed the NEET question paper in the coming year would be based on the most recent syllabus. With regards to the changes in the syllabus, the agency stated, “Those topics which are neither being taught anywhere in the school board nor available in the latest book of NCERT, have been deleted. The syllabus has been revised and reduced to focus on core concepts.”

The reason behind changing the syllabus for NEET UG 2024, as explained by NTA, in the COVID-19 situation many school boards, in response to the pandemic, removed certain portions from each subject. These deleted portions has not been uniform across all boards so NTA received numerous requests for syllabus changes to ensure that students are not disadvantaged.
Additionally, NTA clarified that the new syllabus includes topics not covered in the NCERT textbooks. These additions were made because various school boards, including the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the Bihar School Education Board (BSEB), the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), and others, teach these topics.
The updated syllabus was uploaded on the official website, and the exam will be held in 5 May 2024. Students can expect the results to be released by June 2024. The agency advised the candidates to go through the revised syllabus carefully to note all the changes.

1. Where I can access the syllabus of the National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test NEET (UG) – 2024?
NMC (National Medical Commission) has notified the syllabus of NEET (UG). The Question Paper will be based on the given syllabus which is available on the NMC website. For the Academic year 2024-25, the NMC has uploaded the updated syllabus of NEET (UG) – 2024.
2. Is there any change in the syllabus for NEET (UG) – 2024 with respect to the previous year?
Yes, there are some changes in the syllabus of NEET (UG) – 2024 with respect to the previous year. Those topics which are neither being taught anywhere in the School Board nor available in the latest book of NCERT, have been deleted. The syllabus has been revised and reduced to focus on core concepts.
3. Why the syllabus of NEET (UG) has been revised for the Academic Year 2024-25?
Due to the COVID-19 scenario, various School Boards deleted portions of each subject’s syllabus. The deleted portion is still not being taken back by these Boards. The deletions were not uniform across various boards. Hence, a number of requests were received by the NTA for the revision of the syllabus.
4. In Unit 2 of the Biology syllabus, it is written – “of an insect (Frog)”. But Frog is not an insect.
It should be read as “of an insect and a frog”.
5. There are a few topics included in the updated syllabus but those are not given in the new NCERT Books.
