All India Quota (AIQ) Vs State Quota

The process of counselling starts after the declaration of the results, and when the admission process starts. The All India Quota (AIQ) consists of 15% of the total available seat that are available for admitting students in the top most colleges at all India scale. Rest 85% is managed under the state quota.

What is the difference between AIQ and state quota?

Most of the NEET aspirants are confused about the the quota allocation of the medical college seats, to understand this lets understand the how is NEET UG is conducted, National Testing Agency (NTA) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the NEET UG exam, however the responsibility of NTA ends once the results of the exams are declared, once the admission process starts the role medical counselling committee and state medical committee comes into play.

What is the counselling process of AIQ of 2023?

The directorate General of Health Services conducts the counselling of  All India Quota of MBBS/BDS  on behalf of Medical Counselling Committee. All the medical seats in the Deemed and Central universities, ESIC and AFMC are allotted through All India Quota . 15% of the total seats allotted in the top government colleges is filled through AIQ. Rest all the 85 % seats are filled by the state medical quotas by the respective state medical committees.

Who all are eligible to participate in the AIQ counselling for 2023?

  1. All the Indian Nationals, overseas citizens of India, NRIs and persons of Indian origin are eligible for AIQ seats.
  2. J&K, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the states that have opted out this counselling process.
  3. If anyone from the above states wishes to participate in the  AIQ counselling process they must submit a self declaration form.

What is the NEET UG 2023 AIQ Reservation Policy?

Only 15% of the MBBS seats belonging to the AIQ are subject to the NEET UG 2023 reservation policy, rest 85% of the seats are subject to respective state’s reservation policy. The reservation of the AIQ seats are as under:

  1. 15%  seats are reserved for SC.
  2. 7.5% seats are reserved for ST.
  3. 27% seats in central educational institutions are reserved for OBCs.
  4. 5% seats are reserved for PwD candidates.

What is the process of counselling for the 85% seats of the state quota?

There are 85% of the seats which are filled  under the state quota. The quota seats are available to the candidates from the respective state. After considering various factors like total number of seats in the state, cutoff marks of that particular state and the category of the students seeking admission in various medical institutions, the  respective state counselling committees publish the list of candidates who qualify for the counselling for the 85% seats of the state medical quota.

1. In each state the candidates who are the resident of that particular state have the access to the 85% seats which fall in that particular seat provided they meet all the qualifying conditions.

2. The respective states publishes the qualifying conditions that the candidates of that specific states must meet  to be eligible to participate in the counselling process.

3. In several states specific state rules apply for filling up the state quota seats.

4. Admission to the private medical colleges are governed by the state regulatory norms.
