The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has released the notification for the Joint Admission Test for Master’s (JAM) 2024. The exam will be held on February 11, 2024, in computer-based mode.
The JAM is a national-level entrance exam for admission to master’s programs in various science and engineering disciplines at IITs, IISc Bangalore, and other participating institutes.
What is IIT JAM?
The IIT JAM, or Joint Admission Test for Masters, is an all-India examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). This exam is designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge and understanding of various subjects in science and technology. The primary objective of IIT JAM is to provide admissions to M.Sc., M.Sc. (Ph.D. Dual Degree), and other postgraduate programs at IITs and IISc.
Eligibility
Candidates who qualify in JAM 2024 must fulfill the following Eligibility Requirements for admissions to IITs.
- Candidates should have passed an undergraduate degree or should be currently studying in their final year of undergraduate programme. Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the Admitting Institute.
- Candidates promoted without a marksheet should produce a certificate stating the subjects studied in that semester/year duly signed by the Head of the Institute.
- Foreign nationals with Indian degree are eligible to apply, subject to policy of the Admitting Institute.
Application Process
JOAPS portal provides an online interface to the candidate for interacting with the JAM 2024
- Apply for the examination online.
- Upload photograph, signature, and other documents like certificate (for OBC-NCL / EWS / SC / ST / PwD)
- Pay the application fee through any of the electronic payment modes.
- Check the status of the application form such as Received, Under scrutiny, Accepted, Defect status, Status after rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, and Admit card ready for download.
Exam Pattern
The JAM 2024 will be a computer-based test (CBT) consisting of seven papers:
- Biotechnology
- Chemistry
- Economics
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Mathematical Statistics
- Physics
Each paper will have 60 questions of 3 marks each, for a total of 180 marks. The duration of the exam will be three hours.

- Online Application Commencement: The online application process for IIT JAM 2024 will commence on 5 September 2023. Aspirants are encouraged to submit their applications promptly to avoid last-minute hassles.
- Last Date for Online Application Submission: The last date for submitting the online application form for IIT JAM 2024 is 13 October 2023. Ensure all required documents and information are submitted before the deadline to avoid any complications.
- Admit Card Release: Admit cards for the IIT JAM 2024 examination will be available for download from 8 January 2024. This document is crucial, so be sure to download and print it well in advance of the exam date.
- IIT JAM 2024 Examination Date: The IIT JAM 2024 examination will be held on 11 February 2024. It is vital for candidates to be well-prepared for this day, as their performance will determine their future academic endeavors.
