Admission to the private medical colleges through NEET 2023 – Key points to remember

All the concerned state counselling bodies conduct the NEET UG counselling for getting admission to private colleges.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) which conducts counselling for government colleges does not interfere in the counselling process for admission to private colleges through NEET 2023.
Only NEET 2023 qualified candidates are eligible for admission in these private medical colleges.
The process of seat allotment to these private medical colleges will be made on the basis of NEET 2023 AIR.
Apart from counselling for admission to private colleges through NEET, the state authority also has the power to conduct counselling for 85% of state quota seats in government colleges.
Reservation criteria is applicable to state quota seats only, while for NEET 2023 admission to private medical colleges, there is no reservation based on a candidate’s category.
The private colleges has quotas for Non-Resident Indians (NRI Quota).

Counselling Authority for Medical Colleges

Government Colleges

Concerned State Authorities will be conducting the counselling for filling 85% of State Quota seats (all seats in the state of Jammu and Kashmir).
Counselling for the balance 15% of seats will be conducted by MCC/DGHS.

What is the process of applying for private Indian medical colleges through NEET?

Students who qualify NEET 2023 need to apply through the respective state authorities for admission. Online applications are generally available state authority’s official website. The typical application process through state authorities is explained below:

Registration – Candidates have to visit the state authority’s official website and register themselves by entering the details like name, phone number, and email id.
Filling of application form – This step includes filling in personal, academic, and contact information. Scanned copies of relevant documents, including photographs, signatures, and caste certificates should also be uploaded.
Payment of application fee – The application fee will vary from one state authority to another. Also, payment is generally accepted online, but draft payment may be also accepted in some cases.
Submission of application form – The completed application form must be submitted before the last date.

Publication of State Merit List

Basis number of applications received, the state authority will subsequently release a state merit list, on the basis of which admission to MBBS and BDS will be granted. The merit list will be prepared using NEET 2023 scores. Generally, candidates who are ranked higher are assigned/ select government medical and dental colleges, as fees tend to be lower.

Some medical aspirants may also take admission to private colleges instead of a government college because private college is highly rated. For example, CMC Vellore is one of the premier private medical colleges in the country, and therefore it would be not a surprise if a candidate prefers it over any government medical college.

Admission to Private Colleges through NEET: Seat allotment

After publishing the merit list, the state counselling authority will conduct the seat allotment processing for admission to private MBBS/BDS colleges. While allotting seats, the preferences of candidates, NEET AIR, eligibility, and other factors are taken into consideration. Generally, candidates who are ranked higher in the state NEET merit list are allotted higher government medical and dental colleges. However, candidates also opt for admission in private colleges instead of a government college because some private colleges are highly rated. Reporting at the allocated college

Once you get an allotment in a private medical college through NEET 2023 , you need to report to the college within the given deadline to complete admission formalities. Failure to report within the stipulated time will lead to the private MBBS seat getting cancelled. At the time of reporting the candidate should bring with them all necessary documents, including a NEET scorecard, admit card, and other required documents.
